Acne generally occurs in the teenage. However, do not be surprised, if you see it recur in your mid-twenties or early thirties as well. Acne in this age is called adult acne and is caused by both physical and emotional reasons such as stress, excessive use of greasy cosmetics, hormonal imbalance caused by birth control measures, and sedentary lifestyles.
Adult acne generally begins with the occurrence of blackheads that is not necessarily dirt. This acne is actually an accumulation of dead cells and oil trapped in the skin's pores, which block ducts and combine with bacteria. Inflammation of these blackheads causes red pimples, which when rubbed with dirty hands spread to the nearby areas. Therefore, one must keep the affected area clean and dry, because humidity gives birth to bacteria, which then serves as the breeding ground for pimples. Pimples when infected with dirt, developing whiteheads or pustules. These pustules can break, causing scars on the skin.
These blackheads are, however, curable. One must, however, treat them cautiously, and not rubbing them mercilessly because that is bound to cause harm to the affected area, instead of curing the problem. You can use a suitable scrub, preferably an exfoliate containing alpha-hydroxy acids, instead of using anything grainy. You may also use a cleanser with salicylic acid. These chemicals are extremely effective and clean out your blocked pores better than most scrubs. There are also readymade blackhead removal strips available in the market, which you can be used weekly. Those with oily skin are prone to maximum sebum accumulation; hence, such people must use oil-free moisturizers and gels. A periodic usage of deep cleansing masks and weekly facials can also go a long way in keeping adult acne in check.
Treatment of adult acne is different from that of teenage acne; hence, do not try to treat them with the same creams or lotions that you might have used as a teenager. There are two basic things that you can do to get rid of skin blemishes, which are as follows:
