Acne Medicine To Help Provide Helpful Treatment

You can locate acne medicine of various kinds in the market with newer ones being added to the existing variety, everyday. The reason of acne is still unknown and treatment for persistent and acute acne is often considered impossible. A person breaks out in acne when the sebaceous glands under one's skin produce increased levels of oil that gets stuck in the pores of the skin. This leads to an infection under the skin causing pimples also called as acne.

Some Factors That Contribute To Acne Are:

  • Incorrect diet
  • Absence of certain essential vitamins from one's diet
  • Anxiety and stress
  • Hormonal changes
  • Heredity

The technical and medical term used for acne is acne vulgaris. This skin disorder is known to affect millions of people worldwide. Though acne mostly strikes teenagers, it does not spare adults either. The disorder primarily begins in adolescence and the main known cause for acne is considered to be hormonal imbalance. Acne medicine is available in plenty but one must consult a medical practitioner if one is suffering from painful and persistent acne.

Common Symptoms Of Acne

There are two types of acne:

  • Inflammatory acne which is the more acute of the two. It requires medical attention and could also require surgery to get some relief. In this kind of acne the whiteheads get inflamed and pustules develop. These can cause pitting and painful scars on the face, neck and the back.
  • Non-inflammatory acne is one wherein the person is suffering from a few whiteheads or blackheads. This mild form of acne can be treated with non-prescription medication and over-the-counter creams and gels.

Common Treatment of Acne

Mild acne can clear up with the following treatment:

  • Use acne medicine that contains sulfur, salicylic acid, benzoyl peroxide and resorcinol.
  • Wash you face at least twice a day and maintain proper oral hygiene.
  • Do not use a loofah or a scrubber as friction would only make your acne worse.
  • Never ever pick or pluck out a pimple as the habit would only make the situation worse.
  • If the above treatment does not provide any relief then try topical treatments that include retinoid or antibiotics.
  • Oral antibiotics are also known to provide much relief. Try not to make it a habit of taking antibiotics over a long period as prolonged usage would hamper your immune system.
  • You could also take some hormonal medications like oral contraceptives for relief from acne.

Acne medication for very severe cases include oral medication called Isotretinoin, more commonly known as Accutane. Though this treatment is known to be very effective, it has numerous known side-effects as well. Possible side effects could include birth defects, liver dysfunction, mood changes and changes in fats and cholesterol levels. It is also advisable to treat acne at the earliest to help reduce scarring.
