Worried about the party that's coming up at the weekend? Acne can truly be a major cause of suffering. It is however, not something that cannot be treated. Don't shy away from people. Instead, try and treat your acne. Numerous acne medicines are available over the counter. However, you need to keep certain things in mind before using any of these products. This article is your guide to choosing the right acne medicine for yourself.
Acne is a commonly occurring skin condition. It not only irritates the teenagers, but is at times also manifests in adults and sometimes in babies as well. Yet, it's the most persistent at the stage of puberty.
Pimples, pustules, zits are all forms of acne. The type of acne may differ from individual to individual. That is why so many types of acne medicines are available to customers. From soaps to gels to lotions, you need guidance to decide which one is meant for you. Gels, creams and lotions most often come under the category of topical treatments, that is, those meant to be applied directly to the affected area. Soaps and pads are usually used not only over the targeted area, but the whole face. Your skin type and acne condition determines the treatment that you would need.
Some chemical preparations are a sure shot method to clearing up those ugly pits and scars and inflammations. The most common (they make up the medicines available in the market) are Benzoyl Peroxide, Resorcinol, Salicylic Acid and Sulfur.
Benzoyl Peroxide is the best suited one for mild acne. It is also preventive in nature. It clears up the dead skin cells and reduces inflammation causing bacteria. Resorcinol, on the other hand, targets blackheads and whiteheads and is more suitable for small area lesions. Salicylic acid treats non-inflammatory blemishes. It cures abnormal shedding of skin cells and helps in clearing up unclogged pores. However, it's not a treatment of the bacteria that cause acne. Sulfur is usually used in combination with the other chemicals, not in isolation.
Remember never to pop your pimples; as this will worsen your appearance. Scrubbing the acne is not a good option either. Cleansing is often the most prescribed procedure because pollution and environment are quite common causes of pimples.
Take care not to overdo the cleansing. Wash your face with a mild cleanser twice or thrice a day and pat it dry with a soft towel. Don't rub hard and don't ever use acidic soaps on the affected area. Sometimes, acne medication initially aggravates the pimple inflammation. In case this occurs, avoid stepping out in the sunlight or use a sunscreen while going out.
Good luck towards a healthy glowing skin!!
