Acne - An Overview of the Skin Hazard and Its Cure

Acne is a skin disease, characterized by the over-secretion of oil glands of the skin. The oil gets blocked in the oil ducts of the skin and results in the formation of acne in the form of pimples, whiteheads, and blackheads. There are six major types of acne, depending on severity: Acne Vulgaris, Acne Rocasea, Acne Rocasea fulninans, Acne Fulminans, Acne Folliculitus, and Acne conglobata. Acne: Common Acne Types and Their Treatment

Acne Vulgaris is a common form of acne and includes skin graduations like blackheads, whiteheads, pimples, cysts, and nodules.

Whiteheads

Whiteheads are caused by the blockage of skin pores due to the accumulation of sebum (oil) and dead skin cells, resulting in the formation of a white spot on the skin.

Blackheads

Incompletely blocked skin pores result in the trapping of sebum and dead skin cells. The skin pigment melanin reacts with oxygen to cause the black color. Blackheads take a considerably longer time to recover than whiteheads.

Pimples

Pimples are swollen, red, sensitive graduation on the skin. These are sometimes painful, but do not take much time to heal.

The severe stage of acne is characterized by nodules and cysts.

Nodules: Nodules are a large form of pimples, usually painful, and last for about a month or more. Squeezing such eruptions may cause irritation and scarring. It is recommended to visit a dermatologist in such cases.

Cysts

Cysts are more like nodules but the infection is more deep-rooted. The bumps are usually filled with pus, which results from the infection. These are equally painful like nodules and last longer, and sometimes even recur with time.

Treatment Of Acne Vulgaris

Tree tea oil, zinc products, vitamin A, and vitamin E are natural healers. Drinking lots of water also helps to keep the skin menace at bay.

White Fluoride-containing toothpaste miraculously reduces the visibility of the scars. It dries out the skin and the scar is minimally seen.

Aloe vera is possibly the best treatment for acne. Scrape out the gel of the aloe vera stem and apply on the affected areas. Aloe vera is a natural skin antiseptic and works wonders for most skin problems.
