Do’s And Don’ts For Acne Scars

Frequent outbreaks of acne cause trauma. As if that is not enough, the situation is made worse by the even worse occurrence of acne scars. Until recently, scars were mostly left untreated, with only one directive to follow: control picking for that is what makes the pimple worse and also leads a scar behind. It is only recently that research into the causes of scars and their effective treatment has changed the scenario. Now we have different technologies offering sophisticated treatments to treat different types of scars. Chemical peels, saline injections, laser resurfacings, etc. are effective for mild scars. Punch techniques and augmentations are for deep scars while some treatments work for all types of scars. However, professional consultation is a must whereupon even a combination could be suggested for best treatment.

Acne and the consequent scars respond to diet manipulation is another myth busted by the actual experience of many persons. Somehow, some people have not experienced the positive benefits of diet changes. Then are others who are simply so addicted to their food preferences that they would not even think of giving up junk food in favor of acne diet.

Research and experience both favor protein rich diet as well as vitamin A and zinc intake to help reduce acne. Vitamin B1 and vitamin B2 as well as vitamin E are good for skin and help alleviate skin problems.
Saturated fats, iodine and hence salt and spices are best avoided.

Still we must remember that excess of anything is harmful. This is true for diet as well. In trying to treat acne through diet, avoiding some constituents and consuming others we should retain a sense of balance. Over enthusiasm won’t ensure fast healing but may lead to unwanted complications.
